Harbest Agribusiness Rooftop Greenhouse for Research & Development of Seeds and Farm Inputs

An experimental roof-top greenhouse was established in the Harbest Agribusiness Corporation's  Main Office in the Rizal Techno Park, Taytay Rizal.  The main purpose of the facility is to conduct preliminary testing of new vegetable seed varieties, and also to conduct research and development farm inputs like pesticides, fertilizers, biostimulants and also hydroponics and irrigation and fertigation systems for water efficient farming.  This is also to test the local performance of new and selected vegetable varieties.  The greenhouse structure is strong enough to resist strong typhoons and also surrounded by insect nets to prevent crops from being damaged by insects and birds.

This was the basic structure during construction, showing metal beams, the net and UV - protected plastic roofing, and nettings at the side.

Mr. Julius Barcelona giving a short orientation and lecture about the greenhouse and the different crops being grown in the facility to visiting participants and clients.

Notice the drip irrigation, fertigation system, water tubings and plumbing system, including the manually refilled soft-drink plastic bottles at the background.

Rows and rows of various leafy and climbing vegetables are planted on elevated trays and trellises.   Testing of crop performance using fertilizers and biostimulants mixed in the drip irrigation system are conducted, including testing of potting mixes.

Data are gathered everyday or every week to monitor growth performance of crops on every experiment.  Results are used as guides in actual planting and farming operations.  Feedbacks from the farm are also submitted to the research center for evaluation and also for further experiments to be conducted to solve farming problems.

A simple hydroponics set up for leafy vegetables is being tested here.

This one is a hydroponics system wherein water mixed with fertilizer from a tank is pumped into plastic tubing lined with individually potted vegetable crops.

Notice every plant has a drip irrigation dripper to conserve water and also for automatic irrigation with labor-free farming.  However, monitoring is almost done everyday.
